gbtmTightrope Books is closing poetry and short fiction submissions as of May 25. We are continuing to seek adult literary novel and novella submissions, as well as literary memoir submissions (hint: we’d love to find another groundbreaking memoir like How to Get a Girl Pregnant). Due to arts council funding rules, we can only accept manuscripts from Canadian citizens or permanent Canadian residents.

Our tagline is “Imagination on the High Wire” and we publish 10-12 books a year (including our two “Best Canadian” anthologies), and our mandate includes a commitment to publishing exquisite books that mirror and explore cross-cultural conflict and relations. We encourage submissions from authors who represent the broad range of diversity including, but not limited to, Indigenous, racialized, and LBGTQ writers, writers with disabilities and younger writers under the age of 30.

Please send a query letter with a brief biography and a brief description of your manuscript and how it fits into Tightrope’s mandate and current list of books. Please also include the first three pages of your manuscript, but not the complete ms. Send to Jim Nason, Publisher, Tightrope Books, #207-2 College Street, Toronto ON M5G 1K3 Canada or email to
