Announcement for The Best of Canadian Poetry in English 2007 One of the projects Tightrope is most excited about is The Best Canadian Poetry 2007, English Edition, annual anthology. This anthology will take the pulse of Canadian poetry on a yearly basis. Each year the annual will be guest edited by a prominent Canadian poet. This year's Guest Editor is Stephanie Bolster. Our Advisory Editor on the project is Molly Peacock. As Advisory Editor she will provide the continuity from year to year. Tightrope hopes to model the book on the very successful Best American Poetry Series edited by David Lehman and published in the States by Scribners. We will make the selection of poems from all the Canadian literary journals of the previous year. We hope to publish our first Best Canadian in 2008, for the 2007 poetry year. The Guest Editor, with the advice of the Advisory Editor, will choose a preliminary long list of 100 poems. From this list the editor will choose a final selection of 50 poems for inclusion in the anthology. Because we wish to take the measure of Canadian poetry every year, we hope to widen the scope and to represent as many magazines as possible. To this end, the long list of poems will be presented in the back of the book, with each poet's name, each poem's title, and where the poem appeared. Tightrope believes
this anthology will be a meaningful contribution to the ongoing literary
dialogue in Canada as well as a way to bring the best of Canadian poetry
to the attention of the reading public in both Canada and the world. |
